Jaden Hawke is a young professional softball player who has just been signed by the Dallas Metros team. She graduated from Michigan where she led her team to two straight US Championships. She pitched for the USA Olympic team where they took the gold medal. While at the Olympics in Japan she met and became romantically involved with Senator Paxton’s daughter, Kendall. Jaden is hired by the Dallas Metros professional team because of Coach Georgia Tate’s support, even though her affair with Kendall Paxton is well known across the country. Jaden still has violent nightmares about the night when she had to rescue Kendall from drug dealers and while on a team trip to that city she ends up having one. The team photographer and Web site administrator, Sloane Ellison, witnesses the nightmare and it’s aftermath and helps Jaden deal with it, from holding her while she’s sick to holding her while she sleeps. They are falling fast for each other. The night they play in Portland the police come to the locker room and take Jaden to the police station for questioning. Kendall Paxton was murdered the previous night while the team was in Los Angeles. Sloane stays behind to arrange bail and a lawyer for her and to lend much needed support. The team questions the advisability of releasing Jaden from her contract due to the conduct clause. Meanwhile, the police in California are working the murder case but the evidence doesn’t add up. Is someone trying to frame her for the crime or was she simply very good at misdirection? Who would know more about Kendall Paxton and her habits than Jaden Hawke? The more personal question is can Jaden and Sloane begin a relationship under such stressful times? And will it survive if Jaden is convicted of murder?

This story is well constructed. The characters are multi dimensional, believable and likeable. There are some sizzling sex scenes that are particularly well written.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It isn't over-flowing with sports commentary like some. All supporting characters complement the story.
The suspense side of the story builds to a believable crescendo.
I will definitely be reading this story again as well as more from this author.
Unfortunately this book has been listed on Amazon with DRM and therefore can only be read on Kindle Apps. I know the Author would sell more copies if she removed the DRM protection and allowed multi device reading. I have not found the story listed on any other site without DRM and have been unable to contact the Author.
This is a superb story that is highly recommended. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because of the restrictive DRM protection.

I was attracted to this book because I love women's softball. I really liked the way the author incorporates relationship with mystery. Hope to see more from Taylor James
I loved this book not only because it was about softball, but also because the characters had depth. I hope Taylor James continues to write with this character as the lead!
I really enjoyed reading this book it was fun and had a edge to the mystery. This is the first time I have read this author I will purchased a couple more books.
This story was a little predictable and the characters were not very developed. I usually like stories about athletes but there wasn't much softball in this book.
Another winner by Taylor James. A s a former softball player I really enjoy the softball themed books and that was a great one. There is also a murder mystery thrown in and that makes it all that much better. Highly recommend!
Hawke is a well-written romantic mystery. Unlike too many lesbian romance writers, Taylor James has shown a real talent for developing characters who are both believable and likable. The softball part of the book gave enough information to show some real knowledge of the game, but not so much that it overwhelmed the story. Although the plot traveled a predictable path, certain twists and turns along the way kept the story interesting. It is not the great American novel, but it is a fun read. It is well-worth the time and money.
I really enjoyed this book. James does a great job developing the main characters. I also fell in love with the supporting characters. There are a lot of twists and turns James takes the readers through. It's all pretty surprising and well written. James also throws some pretty steamy sex scenes in there. I definitely recommend this book and author to others who enjoy this genre.
